APEX Mode

For the ultimate in expressive control, every parameter on every pedal can be assigned – in full or in a range, normal or inverse – to an expression pedal.

You can experiment with interesting expressions via Keystone Control Center, Try them out in realtime, save them to the pedal, and back them up to your PC/Mac as a plaintext json file.

If you're the kind of player who knows exactly what they want, here are step by step instructions for setting up APEX directly on your Keystone effect pedal.

  • To enter APEX Mode, first make sure 9V power is unplugged.
  • Next, hold down FS1 (right footswitch) as 9V power is applied.
  • LED1 (left LED) will blink rapidly to confirm pedal is in the expression setting mode.
  • While in expression setting mode, you may now assign any and all of the knobs – in their full range or partial, direct or inverse mapping – to the expression pedal.
  • To assign the full sweep of the knob to expression, simply move it in the direction you want it mapped – up for up, down for down.
  • To assign a range of the knob rather than the full sweep, hold down FS2 (the left footswitch) while turning the knob to the desired values. You’ll set two things – the minimum and maximum.
    • The pedal will confirm each input by blinking the LED twice. Set the first value, wait for blink confirmation, then set the next value.
    • For direct mapping, set the minimum value, then the maximum. Alternately, if you want inverse mapping – set the maximum value first, then the minimum.
    • Once each value is confirmed by LED blinks, release FS2.
  • To clear all assignments, flip SW1 (the left switch.) To clear the last assignment, flip SW2 (the right switch).
  • Once completed, press FS1 again to exit the expression setting mode. The LED will blink on exit to show the number of parameters currently linked to the expression pedal.
  • Your unique APEX settings are retained on the pedal, and can be backed up via Keystone Control Center.
